Polynomials and Quadratics

A Collection of Tasks for Learning or Assessment PQ **Targets:**

  1. I can simplify expressions containing positive and negative exponents, and express my answer using positive exponents.
  2. I can add and subtract polynomials.
  3. I can multiply monomials with polynomials. I can multiply two binomials.
  4. I can factor a trinomial using the greatest common factor, finding the difference of two squares, and completing perfect square trinomials.
  5. I can solve a quadratic equation using factoring and square roots. I can write a quadratic equation given the solutions.

Students have been focusing on linear equations. Examine the difference between linear and nonlinear patterns.

Examine the Rules of Exponents and practice using them.

Use area models to consider the difference between multiplication (area) and addition of variables (perimeter).

Multiply binomials and factor trinomials using area models.
